Question Will XMDirect work with HCHII Navi/XM Ready Radio?

http://xmradio.com/xmdirect/index.jsp

Has anyone tried to install one of these?

I happened to see it at Target of all places yesterday and was curious if it would work!

Thanks,

Michael

I don't think there is one compatible with Honda yet. In my other Honda I installed a Kenwood head unit so I could use the XM Direct with the Kenwood adapter.

If you look on the bottom of the link you referred to, Honda is not listed. Maybe they want you to shell out the $$$ to get the Honda XM unit installed ? I hope they eventually make a Honda adapter since I kept my XM direct.

That link is for another unit: XMDirect® Factory Vehicle Kit

An Alpine (which is the brand in the Honda) is compatible but I am not sure if the Navi is that unit or not!

Here is what is says:

Alpine
  • XMDirect Universal Tuner Box (Model XMD1000)
  • XMDirect Kenwood Adapter Cable (XMDALP100)
  • Compatible with select Satellite-Ready Alpine Head-units*

Think they have a typo listing the Kenwood adapter under Alpine (different part numbers).

If you look at the install instructions for the Honda XM kit it uses a bus cable to connect to the back of the head unit. I don't have an Alpine adapter so I can't be sure but the pics look like a different type of cable.

Please post if you are successful in getting this to work. I have searched numerous XM and Honda forums with no luck. Many are now buying the dash piece so that you can put in your own aftermarket unit and use the XM Direct.

Good luck.

I just can't justify $700 plus tax to install XM when I commute 30 minutes and my wife 20 minutes each way. With all the room under the head unit, might as well get an XM to go.

Pioneer Innos are now at $300 or slightly below. Get the best of both worlds XM radio and MP3 player with the flexibility to play them anywhere.
