Proven reliability. Sadly, this is especially true among Hondas.

For the Insight, the 5-speed is 66/66 (city/hwy), but the CVT version is 57/56.
To be fair, you'd have to use the same engine for both CVT and manual to make a fair comparison. On the Insight, the CVT version doesn't have lean-burn, which hurts its mpgs a lot.

As for me, I'd prefer not to have a manual in general in my area because it's significantly hilly and/or congested... both of which mean much more frequent shifting, thus more clutch wear and tear.

That's my vote! I bought manuals because they were a lot of fun to drive! But now that I'm older, I'm over the fun factor and buy automatics. Although, I do enjoy driving my manual shift truck every now and then. But if I had to make that purchasing choice twelve years ago all over again, I think I would have bought a full size truck with an automatic.

Your point is noted that the CVT does not have lean-burn. The question remains on the 5-speed Insight with lean burn: if the CVT is more efficient - why didn't they use it?

i have always driven a manual (learned on an old ford falcon with a non-synchronized 1st gear). i feel like i have more control over what the wheels are doing, especially in snow. maybe that's not the case, but that's how it feels. and i'm too old to change

Drivers like manuals.

Americans are horrible drivers,, and basicly lazy. Most would die or cause death if thrown onto a german hwy.

Nor could most fig. out how to start and drive a model T ford if thats all there was and they had to drive a dieng child out for help. ( extreme ) I can drive a T and A.

All three of my girls had to learn to drive a stick and pass there drivers test on a stick. Then drive a stick untill they bought there own cars.

Its bad how americans are killing the MT

I unfortunately get a lot of calls while on the road... I just put on my headset before I get going. I will probably be switching to a wireless headset soon though. Otherwise it is not that big of a deal.

I like being lazy. I like having my auto HAH. I like the remote control that came with my TV. I like the automatic opener that I installed on my garage door. I really like the water dispenser on my fridge. I even like the fact that I now have internet/email.

Take it from me, being lazy ROCKS!

Right on! I've owned ATs for 25 years. But when I visited Europe recently I rented a MT Opel Vectra and loved driving it - for four days. It's great for driving on a winding two lane highway and shifting down BEFORE you come out to pass, or BEFORE a sharp curve.
