Regarding the doors unlocking:
I had this problem too, because I had my car set to unlock the door when I shift into park, but they wouldn't unlock when my car is off.
You need to change the setting, so they unlock when the ignition switch is turned off.
To do this:
1. Make sure the shift lever is in
Park (P), and close the driver’s
door.
2.Turn the ignition switch to the ON
(II) position.
3. Set the parking brake.
4.Push and hold the brake pedal,
then move the shift lever out of
Park (P).
5.Push and hold the unlock side of
the master door lock switch on the
driver’s door. You will hear a
clicking sound, and after about 5
seconds, you will hear another
clicking sound.
-Until you hear one click (after
about 5 seconds) to activate the
driver’s door unlock feature.
-Or, until you hear a second click
(after about 10 seconds) to
activate the all doors unlock
feature.
6. Release the switch, turn the
ignition switch to the
ACCESSORY (I) position within 5
seconds and move the shift lever
to Park (P).

(also on p 84 of your manual)

hope this helps

If you're running the engine in Park, you're probably thinking about comfort or survival in cold outdoor conditions -- something the HVAC can't provide.

Is this just for the HCHII ?

Or will it work on the HCHI as well?

Not sure. You can try it and/or check your manual.

By your post do you mean:

Been said, but in order to get to 'Park', you have to go through 'Reverse', and since that isn't 'Neutral' or 'Drive', the engine starts. My shutdown process, easy on the CVT:
- Pull into parking spot, shift to N (whether AS engages or not)
- Pull hand brake
- Turn off engine completely
- Shift to P
- Remove key, go about my life.

It doesn't explain why the ICE has to kick on. The brake is still on, the car is not going anywhere.

Anyway, I spoke to a service manager and he mentioned something to the effect that AS will not work in PARK because they need a way for the ICE to remain on always. In case they need (or whoever) to diagnose a problem. Which is a pretty valid reason.

Yes, it does. Pull out your owner's manual. It says point-blank that AS will only engage when the transmission is in neutral or drive. Reverse is neither, and therefore AS mode is terminated when the transmission handle enters the 'R' position. I agree that it's pretty stupid to re-engage the engine despite still having your foot on the brake, but that's how the thing is both programmed and documented.

Yikes... the manual doesn't offer a REASON. It just says the following WILL occur with NO explanation as to WHY. I'm looking for the WHY... and I found it.

Simmer down fellas. We're all friends here.

It makes sense for AS to not occur in R and it makes sense to have it running it park for diasgnostics (or so you don't freeze to death immediately if you get stuck in the snow).

Everybody wins!
