If anything you sense understeer. Which is what most car manufacturer design into the car. It's the easiest thing to correct, let off the gas. Especially a front drive non-sports car like the HCH I.

My OEM were the Dunlops, just replaced them (at 36K) with the Bridgestones Insig SE200 because they where $50 cheaper each, however, Im seeing a decrease in milage 0f 37-38mpg where I previouuly had 40-45mpg depending on the season. Ive had them for a week and it spring is here, so hopefully the mpg's will increase.

Did you go with OEM size tires? Also, do you have them inflated properly? Try going a few psi over recommended.

Hi Liv,

Yes, I kept the stock size 195-65-15 and stayed with the tire PSI the shop inflated to 30 PSI. I'll verify them after work.

Doesn't over inflating them whare faster? My originals wore fast, because i drive 65-75 on the HOV (another benefit of my 06 Hybrd) and even at those speeds I still averaged 40+ miles. I have a 57 mile daily compute just to work and back to home.

Montana,
Inflating them within reason (certainly I'd go no higher than sidewall rated-max, usually 44 or 51 PSI) improves handling, traction, responsiveness, MPG, while it reduces tire temperatures (helping them last LONGER). The only thing NOT improved is the ride quality. The ride may be harsher and could introduce more rattles over time. I believe these two are the sole reasons that auto manufacturers "recommend" 26-32 PSI typically - for a cushier ride.
I go with about 35-36 PSI and have NO issues. I'm right at 50K miles. Many people go with higher PSI, and I may experiment more this summer.

About the MPG going down - this may just be because the tires are brand new. Once they wear in a little (maybe up to a few thousand miles), the MPGs should go up some. That's typical.
BTW, welcome to the forum. And I'm originally from Chesapeake!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the info and encouraging reply. I'll experiment and bump my PSI little by little.

Not sure when the last ime you where in Chesapeake (city of draw bridges...lol). It has definately changed since moving here in 2000.

Great Bridge, XMAS 2008. (Yes, I'm a Wildcat!)
But it had been many years before that visit.

Do get higher than the 26-32 PSI, at least. It's good for your tires, too.

For multiple lengthy and well-researched general discussions on tire pressures, MPGs, and how PSI may affect other performance of your car or tires, go to Insight Central forums. Those hypermilers have studied the subject backwards and forwards. You will learn more than you ever wanted to know!
