The 05 does that. Walk away from the car with the headlights on, and when you lock the doors, in about 20 seconds they'll go off. (with the requisite warning beeper that you've left the lights on, as you get out of the car.)

Then when you unlock the car, the headlights lights come back on.

Real simple for me:

1. Headlights that turn off when you open the drivers door, instead of the typical annoying "bong bong bong" alarm. My Tundra has this feature, it's REALLY nice.
2. Sliding sun visor extension. REALLY wish it had this.
3. More 12v cigarette lighter power centers
4. Keypad entry on the door. My wife's Ford has this, it's like the remote key locking feature, you think it's kinda exteranneous... until you have it, then you find it's unbelievably useful.

Well, the 05 HCH might, but my 06 did not. The first month I had it, I kept forgetting to turn off the lights (my last vehicle, a Sonata, had auto-shutoff lights). Sure enough, one night I got out, forgot to turn off the lights, and missed the warning beeps. When I got up in the morning, all the batteries were completely dead. Funny thing about dead batteries... you have to use the key to open the locked doors. And, because the batteries are dead, the chip in the key does not sync up with the alarm computer. When you get a charge back on that battery, off goes the alarm! It took me a few minutes to figure out the link between the dead battery and the computer chip key. The solution was to turn off the car, lock and unlock the doors using the remote key switch. Voila! Silence is truly golden.

Now, if they are SUPPOSE to shut off automatically, or if there is some switch/option that I am not aware of that sets the lights to auto-shutoff, please enlighten me!

(sorry - the previous "it already does that" is the Accord - not the Civic. I was responding in the wrong section

I kind of like the "pause" with the headlights as it gives me enough time to get from car to house without tripping over dogs, trash cans, squirrels, bicycles, raccoons, snails, etc., in the dark.

The problem with MORE 12V power outlets (they're not cigarette lighters any more unless you pay EXTRA for a lighter head.) is that they all seem to run off the same max. allowable power.

So the Accord has TWO in the front, but you can only plug appliances in the two, to take you up to the 12 volts. It's a little like Lisa Douglas plugging in things into the outlets in the kitchen in GREEN ACRES.

keypad: I'd just as soon push the little button on my key to pop the locks than have my neighbor the Math Whiz stand out there all nite and push in thousands of key combinations until he gets the door open to yank my Harry Potter Audio Book CDs. Those kids never think to use a brick or a baseball bat.

3 things:

1. A more feature rich instrumentation. For an example, instead of having us hunt for the mpg, this should be displayed in bold like on the NAV screen or similar screens for non navi models. This goes for the external temperature as well. The ability to display it is there, why hide it?

2. A better sounding, static free radio!!

3. 20 more hp. I know I didn't buy a muscle car but would like a little more zip.

Seems like based on the luxurey requests here, and the number of people on this website that traded in more luxury type cars for their hybrids, Honda may have some success with a hybrid version of the Acura TSX?

An electric engine paired with the 205 hp 2.4 inline 4 and the TSX's small size would easily yield 40-45 mpg since the TSX is only slightly more heavy than the Civic (+/- 500 lbs)

I was about to start a new thread about '05 HCH features that (unfortunately) didn't carry over to the '06, but this one looks like a good place for such commentary. So here goes, in no particular order:
  • The '05 has a nice big green light on the A/C button to let you know it's on. The '06 doesn't have it; instead, a very small (and hard-to-see) "A/C ON/OFF" indicator sits in one corner of the climate control display. As a result, it's easy to drive with the A/C on and not know it (and as with all vehicles, A/C has a substantial negative impact on MPG).
  • The '06 has only seven fan speeds, vs. nine on the '05
  • The '05 has a circular green light around the ignition, making it easy to find at night. The '06 dropped it.
  • The master door lock switch on the '05 is where it should be -- on the driver's door. The '06 has it on the arm rest. I have often hit the lock button when trying to open/close the window.
  • It's nice that the '06 has two DC accessory plugs (formerly cigarette lighters) instead of one, but the covers to both are spring-loaded and snap shut if you don't hold them open. On the '05, the cover stays open.
To those of you wishing for a fold-down rear seat, forget it. FYI, the IMA battery is located between the seat and the trunk.

No doubt Honda didn't make offer an optional sun/moon roof because hybrids are engineered for max FE, and that roof decreases aerodynamic efficiency.

While I'd like to see a wider color selection, that's hardly a reason to avoid the car. If you simply can't stand any of the available colors, Maaco or some other paint shop is just a phone call away. And a new paint job won't void the warranty.

As long as we're looking for improvements, how about this one... A manual AS button! Sounds strange, I know, but let me explain. I've owned my 06 HCH for only one week, but I've already had numerous times stuck in traffic or at lights where AS activates and then the driver in front creeps up one carlength. I know that if I get off the brake the engine will start... and if I don't hit a certain speed (is it 8 mph?), the AS will NOT activate again. So, I'm left with the choice of looking like an inattentive driver with a big gap in front of me... or creeping forward to fill the gap but having my engine start and no way to reactivate AS... perhaps for a LONG time at a traffic light. It would be nice to have an AS button where you could reactivate AS manually.

Yes, but you'd have the same problem as in the Accord - there's not enough room in the engine bay to accomodate the 2.4 L, and the 5AT, when you wedge the IMA motor in between the two. That's why Honda went with the J30 IMA in the Accord - the shorter V6 block, along with a modified AT housing, allowed just enough room for the IMA motor.

The other problem would be the transmission of choice. The really good one to get with the TSX is the 6-speed. It's a lot more soulless with the 5AT, and I don't think Honda would offer it with the MT (otherwise, they'd allow the new Civic Hybrid to have it). The CVT is out altogether - it couldn't handle 205 horse in it's current form.
