Clif
Once again you are confused.
There is no $6200 difference.

Here are the 06 prices including the $550 destination fee:
DX 15,010
LX 17,060
EX 18,810
HYBRID 22,400

The hybrid has features that put it arguably between the LX and the EX.
The average of their price of the EX and the LX is 17,935.

So, here is the difference between the hybrid and that average:
22,400 - 17,935 = 4,465 (not 6,200)

Also, it is really misleading of you to title this thread "Tax Credit is a Scam."
It is not a scam.
It is real.
It is unfair for you to say it is a scam in the title.
Perhaps you would consider editing it; people will google and be misled by your title.

The problem is the person who lied to you at the dealer, not the tax credit itself.

2005 = tax deduction
2006 = tax credit

Next time do your homework first.
You have only yourself to blame.

To qualify that number you have to take into account that people are paying below list for the nonhybrid and list or above for the hybrid. That raises the difference. But that is not why I bought the hybrid. I wouldn't have given the Civic a chance had it not been a hybrid (I now couldnt see myself in any other car).

And i will repeat; unless it changes, alot of people will be paying Alternative Minimum Tax in tax year 06 which may eliminate the ability to take the $2100 reduction. Keep an eye on the new; Congress is dealing with this now!

Exclamation

Hi;

I was going to add my 2-Cents to this Thread.

However I just took the time to re-read the comments Posted here and Man this thing has been Beat to Death already.

I bet there will be more thought given before the {Thread-Header} Re: Tax Credit Is Bogus; will be stated like that again.

However we all get, "Upset" and are all probably somewhat Guilty to some Degree of going off the Deep-End when we get, (Mislead & Lied To).

So, I will Cut Some Slack here and just say, Thread Starter forget this Lie and Move on and Enjoy your New Ride.

Terry

BTW; We all here for the most part realize that (As-The-Old-Saying-Goes) buyer Beware:

Also check what your state offers, I learned after my purchase that it was a $2000 deduction, however my state offers a $2000 credit as well. so I'm not getting the $4000 I hoped for, but it's still enough to make it worth buying the hybrid over another civic.

Car dealers:

A: Aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.
B: Are highly motivated to spew "facts" that just ain't so.
C: Often outright lie (but only when their lips are moving).

Right, Terry?
