switching lightweight wheels

Re: switching lightweight wheels
Swapping between different lightweight wheels won't affect your mileage as much as the rubber on them.
I've purchased and used two sets of inexpensive lightweight wheels from the Tirerack with no perceptible change in fuel efficiency.

Re: switching lightweight wheels
just FYI...
its not just the weight that is behind the idea of the wheels on the hch...they are aerodynamic as well. they were built with the hybrid in mind for both reasons.
im trying to find the article i read before but its actually pretty incredible in a straight line how much difference you will see in mpg vs if you drive the twisties to get to work.

Re: switching lightweight wheels
I made the switch and have not noticed any mileage loss. Tinted windows and the new wheels make my silver 08 civic look like a sports car (I love it). Check it out at http://www.gestner.net/civic.htm
The new wheels are actually lighter than the Honda originals.

PS mileage did start creeping downward right after the wheel switch. After a week of that I checked the tire air pressure and sure enough they were set at 32 lb not the 40- 42 I have them at now. Mileage is back up to 46 MPG average again. I only have 1800 miles on it so far so the hope is for even higher mileage as time goes on.
