I'm looking forward to seeing the info on the torque curve. That should be very interesting. In the meantime, I'll share what I've been up to. I accelerate at 2000 rpm. So many of my stops occur just before an incline, when that occurs, I try at 2000, but if it's too steep will have to increase it to 2500. My last tank yielded me 54.8mpg. If I can increase that with the help of my friends here I'll be very happy!

Default Re: Torque and Power Curves

These are displayed on two graphs (showing power and torque) in the last two minutes of the excellent ten minute Honda Civic Hybrid video which I have often championed on this website. Namely:

http://world.honda.com/HDTV/news/2005-4050705b/

From these graphs you will see that IMA assist is an immediate straight line which tails off at somewhere between 2000 and 2500 rpm, whereas the ICE builds more slowly but continues to deliver power up to about 4000 rpm.

The workings of the ICE with IMA are a fascinating revelation which I would urge all HCHII owners to watch and keep for further study!

(The video takes a few minutes to download, but once you have it all on screen you can go back to the graphs and freeze the action. Perhaps one of you can copy them to display to our members)

Thanks that is the same chart as the video with a lot of other technical detail. It is also easier to print-off and may help those without broadband.

The chart has been forwarded to the gearheads. I imagine in a little over 18 hours, we may have some more informed opinions. Personally, from the torque curve, I'm thinking just about anything below about 2800rpm (where the curve starts tailing downwards) will be more or less the same.

I generally start somewhere in the middle, and that gives me decent gas mileage.
