Once the red light turns green, count five seconds before hitting the gas pedal. George gave me the tip and it's really helped me out. First of all, it allows the car in front of you to get moving and it stops you from making a false start and having to brake because the traffic in front of you hasn't started moving yet. I'm on my second tank and have gone from 37.4 mpg to 46.7 mpg. Good luck!

I hate when I do that as the HCH can be a fuel PIG if not carefully nursed those first few minutes.

George, as soon as possible cylce the AC compressor as needed using the dash button instead of just leaving it on.

This summer here in GA has also been pretty hot. Even in the mid 90's with 99% sticky humidity I brought my cooler with ice water and a dabbing cloth.
I put a towel over my seat and center arm rest to keep it from getting nasty.
I doubt if my AC has been on for more than a half hour the whole summer, including defogger.
While there is no doubt that has been pretty extreme behavior look at my tank results. (You can click the figure in my signature below) A/C non-use played a big part of that.
My efforts have surely paid off, but what is that thing that keeps rolling down the back of my Left Leg?

My AC compressor should last longer too!
You're insane! No A/C in Georgia in the summer??

I am continually inrigued by those who take this so seriously that they go these extremes to avoid using the AC. With all due respect, you have obviously decided to use some gas for your transportation, but is it so outrageous to use just a little bit more for your comfort? Isn't that worth something? If you were that crazed about MPG and don't care how sweaty you get, why not just ride a bike? I suppose there's the challenge of doing as well as you can on MPG, so it's not just a ride anymore, but geez give yourself a break, don't make it too miserable. :-)

Who cares, you don't need it. :-)

Hi ZimBop:

___It is a tough sell to bike 30 + miles to work and 30 + miles back from work everyday, right? What did your parents drive back in the 50’s, and 60’s? Did they have A/C in all there cars? If so, lucky them! And more to the point, lucky you

___That being said, Hot_Georgia_2004 is achieving FE results out of his CVT based HCH that are awe inspiring in my eyes!

___Good Luck

One thing to keep in mind, by the way, is that pretty much every A/C system I know of needs to be run every couple weeks in order to keep all the seals properly lubricated and in good working order. Failure to do so can result in the premature demise of your A/C system.

Oddly enough I didn't really feel all that hot (Or just ignored it) until I reached my air conditioned office. The next 10 minutes or so was quite uncomfortable.
Did anyone catch what I mean by the thing crawling down my Left leg?
I'd bet Wayne, Lakedude, Josh and a few others catch what I mean.

Fortunately we don't have any dress code at work per say... no shirt & tie so I'd leave my home wearing shorts, a t-shirt and barefeet. I brought along sox, shoes and a nice slip on shirt for my arrival.

I did the ice water to some extent last summer, all this summer and likely next summer too.
Why?
Besides my outrageous MPG, multiple points of savings, bragging rights at the cooler and complete amazement of my vehicle, take this moment for example.
I'm sitting here in my Honda dealer, waiting for a 4 wheel alignment.
I'm using their WiFi and the room is filled with people. I think most of them brought their van for service.
Alot of them overheard me telling the Honda Rep about my 941 mile tank and +69MPG and looked around to see a room full of:

Priceless.

On another note my last car's AC didn't work for the last two years, same for the car before it and years earlier I drove a 1965 Chev Biscayne w/no AC at all.

While most won't attempt to save as much as I have everyone has their priorities.
Should I take the family on an MGM Studios Florida outing this winter, or catch several trips to the 6 Flags over Georgia amusement park before years end?
We could, and alot of it would go for my summer efforts.
I'll probably just bank it twards my next hybrid car....in about 8 years.

AZCivic,
I'm more concerned with over use of my electric windows!

It is not that zimbop, some of the posters on here live to brag about high mileage and how much gas they can get in the fixed size gas tank. Some of it is believable, some is in outer space. I have a life and extreme driving in a sweat in a non used airconditioned car is not part of that. A Moped would probably be a better alternative for the serious hypermilers.

Hi DTDriver:

___One of these days I am going to post an article about Ice-Vests … Oh how comfortable you can be and still receive the FE a hybrid/non-hybrid is actually capable of in the summer time heat

___Good Luck

Wayne, are you kidding, are these available?
I'd buy one if the price is right.

I'll tell you how to make one. Drop ice inside your shirt. Make sure your shirt is tucked in. No charge!
