Question Jerky Electric Motor Engagement

I have a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid with a CVT. When the IMA electric motor engages, either as a generator on deceleration or to assist on acceleration, it jerks the car. Car has 175,000 miles and this just started recently. Prior to this, engagement was barely noticeable.

My '06 has always been less than smooth on both engage/disengage from 65K mi and on (bought used). "jerky" is a strong word, but it qualifies. To me it feels more like something with the CVT.
