Most people that put in aftermarket radios put in alarms. But this might be something to consider if you are not going to install an aftermarket alarm.

I can't confirm or deny what the _13th_saint said though.

WHAAAA.....? If this is true... that's a ****ed design defect if I've ever "heard" one. 'Cause as I've said 15 times on this message board, THE STOCK STEREO SUCKS. Where can I confirm this? Was this some smoke a dealer blew, or is this true?

Easy way to find out is to unplug the radio. and try your remote.

whoa, nice. this is the kinda thing that might make me buy an ipod .

on another note, i like the AVIC N2 but i've read that it doesn't have video while in motion and you can't input destinations into the navigation while in motion, you must be in park and have the parking brake set to do any of these operations, yet with the AVIC N1, i've heard you could do everything while in motion, anyone confirm or refute this?

as far as losing remote operations, i'm not sure, but i'd be interested in knowing the answer as well for '05s since i'm considering an aftermarket radio also

I didn't think this through, but I just realized I know two people with aftermarket stereos in 04's, and no one's ever said they lost their remote lock feature.

My apologies, my information regarding the transponder's location was incorrect. Thank you lakedude for the correction.

I have an '03 civic and i can confirm that you can totally remove the radio and the remote locks / factory alarm still works fine. I installed a Pioneer head unit with RF 1200w 4 channel amp and some really nice high end speakers. i love my long drives to work. (90 miles round trip )
