Intake Melting?
I was cleaning my engine today, and decided to clean under the intake manifold. I took it out and it looked as if some of the plastic underneath had actually melted a bit. Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone want to check their intake to see if this is happening on them too? I'm not sure how big of a deal this is, but any help is appreciated.

It looks more like bending stress and scratches on the plastic to me than melting. But that's just my opinion..
I guess you could sand it down somewhat if you were concerned.

it could be just that piece in your car depending on how that specific intake came off machine the made it.
i think i'm just too lazy to rip off the covers to go investigate.

It's not bending stress, or scratches. I can tell by looking at it. I'm pretty sure that it's a manufacturing defect. I'm not too worried, but I am still curious if other people have this or if its just me.
I just got a copy of the service manual in, man it's huge!

If you will give me the page number(s) for instructions on removing this, I will check mine out and post the results.

If so, you'll find it on page 11-375 on the service manual... or Module 11 on the Honda general servicing DVD.

Thanks, but I have figured out that that was just the way it was manufactured. If you still want to take a look at yours, you can.
(I never got a DVD w/ my service manual....was that included?)

The DVD package is for training purposes only and is sold separately. Comparatively speaking, the Service Manual is the cheaper option for most individuals.

Being that I am a good friend and worried about your intake... i think since yours is defected... ITS TIME TO UPGRADE

You can find a good price here:

If you dont care about label/brand names, then here you go:

Ok, if you are serious about getting one... my boy owns a shop and can get a better price. Send me a PM if interested giantquesadilla. I am on the edge of just getting one myself. I honestly dont know if it will affect or MPG in a positive or negative way, but my guess would have to be POSITIVE....
???

Sorry to be picky, but that's not the intake manifold. That's part of the air filter assembly. it has a resonance chamber that engineers spent countless hours on tuning to help creat a torque curve for these engines. And if you remove it for a piece of pipe like Black Ice posted, you will actually lose power on a stock car.
