I live in NM, and insure with AmericanExpress. My impression is that the Prius was not more expensive for equivalent coverage (but since my other car had much reduced coverage, I am guessing here).

Regardless, do yourself a favor and shop around. There are big differences between the insurers, and different driver groups (state, age, driving history, car etc..) are not viewed the same across insurers.

 

I pay about $600 every six months - which is far less than what I was paying on my 2000 New Beetle.
