Default How many HCHs have been sold?

JUst a quick question, how many HCH (I&II) have been sold in the US since it's introduction?

I believe Toyota have sold something to the order of 250k Prii in the US.

So I find it hard to believe that in CA they are running out of HOV (carpool) stickers already. If 75K were allowed it means a significant portion of all Hybrids sold in the US were sold in CA. If I have the HCH total it's easy to calculate. Insights would only add a minimal number, if I understand it correctly.

To answer the question. This comes from Honda July Sales announcement.

Here is the URL
http://www.hondanews.com/CatID1000?m...56073&mime=asc

The total year to date as of July 31, 2006 is (drum roll please) 18,428 and for July itself 2,673.

Since that is just this year up to July 31, it would not include 2006 Civic Hybrids sold last year.

So it would be a reasonable assumption that there are 3Prii per HCH?

Which means total hybrids sold in the US that would qualify for CA HOV stickers would be 330K to date. Roughly speaking. WHich will translate into 23% in CA if all the HOV stickers are used, and that is the ones that applied for the stickers. I somehow find it hard to believe all those stickers went to the correct hybrids then.

I just dont see how almost a 1/4 of all hybrids sold in the US are in CA and have applied for HOV stickers. HMMMMMMMM. So maybe I will be in time to get one

In 2005, California had 52,616 new hybrid vehicle registrations. 22,922 of those were in the LA area. The total for the US was 205,749. In 2005, 107,897 Priuses were sold. That compares to about 26,000 Honda Civic Hybrids for a Prius/Civic Hybrid ratio of just over 4. However, this ratio is a bit different for 2006. Through June, 48,156 Priuses have been sold compared to 15,755 Civic Hybrids for a ratio ofjust over 3.

Very interesting, so CA is gobbling up most of the Hybrids by a long shot. Hmm , hope I get my stickers in time then.

Just a correction on the data listed above. Till end June 06 Toyota sold 48,156 Prii. Good site though, seems like Hybrids is definitely gaining ground as a technology.

Thx for the info.

Thanks for pointing that out. I edited the original post. I must have fat-fingered my calculator's keyboard.

Speaking as someone who travels a lot for work and can spot all hybrids, I can say I have no doubt that 1/4 or more of all the hybrids sold in the US are sold in CA.

My sales guy said they were importing 35,000 HCH II's for all of US in '06. Not sure if that is fact or not.
