Default FM interference with Motorola Razor

I just got a new Motorola Razor cell and was charging it in my car when I noticed heavy interference on FM radio but not on AM. As soon as I unpluged the charger to static was gone. Similarly when I was gassing up, I had Am radio on and when the gas attendant placed the nozzle into the tank the radio was total static, after he removed it, everything was fine. Very strange.

I use a Moto Razr and their charger with no problems. If it's a non-Motorola charger, you may run into these kinds of issues. I had a similar problem with a Nokia phone in a previous, non-HCH, and it went away as soon as I bought a Nokia charger.

The charger is Motorola.

You still may have a short in it. Can you return it back to the store for a new one? You might want to try that (or use a friends to see if it is that particular charger).

All Razr's interfere with nearby speakers. It doesn't matter where you are. You'll come to learn you have a incoming phone call prior to it ringing, as you'll hear the interferance in any nearby speakers. It's a pain in the butt.

I would disagree with the assessment that all Motorola Razrs interefere with speakers. I use mine all the time around speakers of varying qualities (high to low quality) and it has never caused a problem.

I was basing my comment on the fact that I and three of my friends all have the same phone and all have the same effect. I'm part of a speaker message board, and it was brought up there as well. So, perhaps "all" may have been too strong. MANY Razr's cause this.

Or it could just be specific revisions of the RAZR. Not uncommon for something to change internally that to the manufacturer is form/fit/functionally equivalent, but has different internal properties that weren't accounted for which result in undesired side-effects.

Thats actually 100% correct. The older RAZRS won't do it, but the newer ones will. I work for Cingular, we've had those phones on the market since January '05, and those ones were just fine.

But on a side note, you WILL get speaker interference with cell phones in general, because they are using the same spectrum of frequencies that FM radios use.
