That's indeed how it works, but it is described in the HCH-II user manual as 'Second gear'. I agree it's strange terminology for a CVT!

S also forces the car to start regeneration even when the engine is cold.

Normally, when I start up in the morning, I have to go downhill, but regen doesn't kick in while I'm in D gear. For some reason or another,
only when I shift to S does full regeneration kick in. Note that this only applies when the engine is cold and is just started.

hmm not charging to the battery when cold is probably a safety measure. S mode is a quick over ride if you really need the regen & there won't be any later so don't abuse it!

Careful here. Yes the battary warranty (for non-green states) is 8 /80, but has a steep pro-rate that is spelled out in the owners liturature and captured below:

100% for 0-36 Months
60% for 37-45 Months
50% for 46-55 Months
40% for 56-65 Months
30% for 66-75 Months
20% for 76-85 Months
10% for 86-95 Months
5% for 96-100 Months
It should also be noted that an extended (Honda Care) warranty DOES NOT change this prorate, regardless of term.

Hi Digitalman
I have a 2003 HCH. I change the oil myself. A couple of flat-headed screw drivers will work in getting the plastic clips out from the cover. I inquired about purchasing the pliers through Honda - they wanted $80. for them. I have also heard that some of the quick lube places convenietly forget to put the cover back on after they change your oil and I have not come across any that carry 0W20. If you do go this route, ask to see the oil containers before they begin to ensure the correct viscosity. I do my own for peace of mind!

I'm able to do the EV Mode at 65 mph... it's kind of easy after you get used with it...

note to some reported that no fuel glide mode also works if cruise control is set at 30 mph and conditions are met. (Flat road, good charge & temperature)

5 bars is tough. I can usually only do 5 for short intervals, and it takes a very steady foot and a smooth road (one little bump can be enough to jostle my foot and cause me to lose the EV mode). Even 4 is not easy, but after some practice I can do it at will (assuming a good enough charge level). The engine also smoothed out a lot after a couple thousand miles, which also makes it easier.
