Default 2006 Civic info starting to come to light...

You can head over to vtec.net and scroll down under "Featured Articles" to see the info that we have so far. Sadly enough, the HX Coupe is absent from the lineup. Looks like I'm not buying a new car this fall!

Why is it too much to ask for a 6-speed MT HCH coupe or HAH coupe?

Am I the only person on here that has crazy dreams about someone totalling the rear end of my HCH so that I can take out the engine/transmission/instrument panel and stick it in a coupe?

Default 2006 Civic Hybrid Info from vtec.net - Newly posted

There's a very detailed description of the 2006 Civic Hybrid on vtec.net with the source as "Honda PR." It includes details of the engine, improved CVT (now standard equipment), and various odds and ends. On the Summary page, it does say "Compared to the Civic Sedan EX, a moonroof and folding rear seat are not available in consideration of weight savings and IMA packaging." Bummer on the folding rear, but it looks like I'm buying.

saw the pix of the 2006 hch. very nice. thought of trading in my 2005 hch for the new model but after reading the specifications, 50/50 mpg??? doesn't improve much on the current hch which is rated 47/48 mpg. i thought honda would bridge the gap with toyota prius but i was mistaken. i'll probably wait for future owners of 2006 hch to post numbers before thinking of getting one.

I doubt that you will ever see a HAH coupe as the regular Accord coupes do NOT sell very well from what I see and hear from the dealers, at least in my area (SE USA). The Civic coupes seem to sell much better, but on a limited production vehicle like a hybrid it would not be cost effective to make two body styles. Many different parts, design, etc. The bottom line for any company is money/profit. Hybrids will have to become the main seller before you start seeing all sorts of body styles. That may become a reality with the oil price gouging going on as we write!

True - you also have to consider from Honda's point of view, would a hybrid coupe attract new buyers, or just take away from those that were out to buy the 4-door hybrid in the first place. The only way it would make sense to them would be if they felt that the 4-door hybrid sales would remain stable, and they'd attract new buyers to the coupe. They'd never turn a profit if all they did was divide the existing sales between two cars instead of one.

They may have elected to address power over FE. Not sure how this config compares to the Prius on power. I've seen pictures with added interior features (like audio controls on the wheel) that would be an improvement over the 03-05 versions. If they addressed a more frequent auto-stop feature, added some additional interior options, you'd have a great car. I'll have to hold out for the 2011 Civic Hybrid - won't be un the market until then.

ha ha ha not a bad idea to wait for the next generation of hch (2011). but seriously, the 06 model is really an eyecatcher. i like the interior and exterior (except for the goofy-looking wheels. what's up with that?!!). but again, until i see real world numbers from 06 owners, i won't start thinking about trading my current hch.

as for power:

hch 06 - gas engine: 93 hp @ 6000 rpm
- electric motor: 20 hp @ 2000 rpm

hch 05 - gas engine: 85 hp @ 5700 rpm
- electric motor: 13.4 hp @ 4000 rpm

prius 05 - gas engine: 76 hp @ 5000 rpm
- electric motor: 67 hp @ 1200-1540 rpm
