I picked up my '06 yesterday. On the drive home from the dealership, my trip computer moved from 37 mpg to 49 mpg around the 63 miles mark.

I will be curious to see how the mileage calculates when I do it manually after my first fill up. With my '05 HCH 5 spd, I got 50 mpg on my first tank, and averaged 47.5 mpg during the time I owned the vehicle. Although my driving style will be the same, first indications are that I may only get around 40 mpg in the '06. This is a bit worrisome, but I will have to wait and see.

Add mine to the list that does. Very strange, I hope they have a fix for this soon.

Does this mpg re-setting happen only with Trip A, or with both Trip A and Trip B?

Ron, it is possible that your average MPG for the first 61 miles happens to be the same as what it is AFTER mile 63.

For instance if you were driving at a constant speed on a 500 mile trip on a flat road if your car had the bug you wouldn't see any change at mile 63. THe conditions are the same before and after the "62.5-mile-zeroing".

But if you drove the first 61 miles on a flat road at a constant 50 MPH, then parked the car and started it up cold the next morning and drove like a teenageer you WOULD see the difference after mile 63.
It would drop down to 25 or so.
If your car did not have the problem it would drop to only about 55 or so.

This morning, we were on a long downhill slope (Kellogg hill) when the mileage went thru 126. I expected to see a large jump upward in mileage but instead only saw the steady .1 mpg increase as we coasted down the hill. I do not think my HCH is inflicted with the problem. At least I hope not.

Another qustion I have that is confusing this matter (to me at least) -

Does this re-setting of the mpg happen when both Trip A or Trip B pass the 63 mile points individually (i.e. the re-setting would happen to each Trip meter individually, and therefore might even be happening in each meter at different times). Or is this re-setting happening when the true odometer readings of the car (the ACTUAL odometer, not the trip meters) passes the 63 mile points?

trip meter for me vs. the odometer.

Of course, your mileage may vary...

Sorry, couldn't help saying it.

I went past 63 miles on my Trip A odometer today, and I saw no change in the mpg's beyond 0.1 mpg. I have been hovering in the 46.x range for the day. I did not check Trip B, which happens to be at 41mpg, which seems right since I didn't drive the first 10 miles on the car.
