Default 06 Civic Hybrid Fuel Consumption @ 80mph?

Hello,
I am new here and planning to buy the Civic Hybrid this weekend.
I am curious if anyone can tell me what the MPG consumption is when crusing at 80mph? I know that consumption goes up dramatically as you exceed 60mph, but the reality is that I often find myself at 80 to keep up with traffic!

Curious to know what the consumption is at 80mph.

Thanks,
SR.

You might want to check out CGameProgrammer under the compare section for the HCH II. From what I recall he drives 80 MPH or more on a regular basis.

I think I drove 80MPH once last winter over about 45 miles in my '04, obviously thinking little of efficiency and did mid 40's as I recall........

I have an 06 HCH II - I just around 2100 miles on my car today (purchased on 4/10 evening) so it's just about 2.5 weeks.

My daily commute is about 160 miles (round-trip).

My first 50 miles are turnpike/highway so I am cruising around 75 and 80 (mostly up a grade), my last 30 miles are local (one lane each way) so, depending on traffic between 30 and 55 miles - again mostly up a grade).

On my return trip, I make up my MPG as I'm going down a grade for my first 30 and I take a different way home for the last 50 (to avoid traffic and tolls) so I'm only going between 65 to 75.

It takes me 1.5 hours to get into work - I leave at 4:15 AM and about 1.75 hours to get home due to traffic (I leave work at beween 4:30 and 5PM to avoid the bulk of rush hour)

You can see my lifetime MPG as well as my details. One caveat, my average may be over stated as my most recent tank was filled at a full service station (in NJ) where my 3 tanks were self-serve so I've found that I can get an extra gallon or so when I top off - to make sure I can get 500 miles per tank.

The only thing I have done is inflate my tire pressure to 40 psi - which is what I have been doing for the last 10 years on my previous non-hybrids.

I had the same reservations as I think you are having about the hybrid - can it be comfortably been driven at higher highway speeds (i.e 80+ - I've typically had to pass "slower" traffic and have gone over 90 about once or twice a week). I find there is no problem - I knew it wasn't going to win in drag races, but knew that with my routes, there are very few opportunities for that. I have been very satisfied with using it as my daily commuter vehicle. The only thing I wish was better was the sound quality of the radio - but I'm sure it would be fixed with new speakers.

I have a 15 miles commute - 13 miles on Freeway, fairly flat... about 200ft altitude difference.

For roundtrip of 30 miles since Nov 05:

at 40-50MPH, I get about 60mpg
at 50-60MPH, I get about 55mpg
at 60-70MPH, I get about 50mpg.
at 70-80MPH, I get about 40MPG.

I just purchased my HCHII Hybrid a week and a half ago, and have about 650 miles on it. I drove 90 miles each way to one of my work locations, mildly hilly terrain, and averaged about 45mpg at 75mph, with the AC on about half the time.

At 75 mph you'd probably get 40-45 mpg; at 80 mph it should be around 40 mpg, but I've had it as low as 36 mpg sometimes. All this was in weather between 45 and 75 degrees; it'd be worse if it's colder.

Oh, BTW I've never noticed any difference between having AC on or off.

I rarely drive below 60, and my lifetime is about 52 mpg. I'm usually between 65 and 80.

Im happy to see others driving my speed, 70-80. Im on my second tank of gas but still only getting 38-40mpg, im 50% highway 50%city about 120 miles a day. It goes down alot on the stop and go.

One more question is it posible to reset trip A im afraid to try if it does how would you know your lifetime miles?

Yes you can reset A it will not affect your total run. When you go through the sequence the life time milage will always still be displayed first with a lifetime mpg figure, then external temperature, then A then B. You could for example reset A for each tank and B for each trip. See p.65 of your manual.
