Just drove on interstate for a round trip of approx 200 miles. Played with the 63 mph issue and saw no reaction from either the instantaneous readout or the average mpg for the trip display. My HCH 2006 was driven off the lot from McCook, NE on 3 Jan 2006. On the return trip my average trip mpg (for all but the 18 miles that were on the vehicle when I purchased it, is now 52 mpg over 14xx miles. I am keeping Trip A as the original mileage at delivery (since only 18 miles on the vehicle at delivery. Apparently my vehicle has a fix.

Mine doesn't have it. At least I don't think it does. And I bought it 1/12/06, car was delivered about a week before that. I know because I watch the I-mpg meter and the avg like a HAWK. I am training myself to know along my route to and from school and to and from home which parts of the trail give better or worse mpg and so forth. I am trying to memorize them in that sense. Maybe they fixed mine. Either way, it doesn't happen to me. Although the other day something strange DID happen.
It was yesterday morning, the car wasn't warmed up, it was about 7:30 AM, and I had JUST left my house. The regen braking wasn't on. I was coming down the street. I was at about 50 mpg on the instant meter, and then it suddenly dropped to 1 or 2 bars. It lingered there for maybe 15-30 seconds, and then jumped back on on its own. It wasn't because of the regen, because the regen kicked in about 2 minutes later. I read somewhere on here that the meters re-calibrate themselves every now and then, is this true ???? If so, I think thats what it may have been....or not ????

Regarding the 63 mph recalibration issue, I cruise control at 60 mph. During my recent trip between Grand Island and Lexington NE (200 mile round trip), I purposely and frequently sped up to 70 mph then settled back to the cruise 60. Watching both the instantaneous and the average mpg I did not notice any clearly unusual fluctuations. I am a newbee and don't claim to have the final word, but I am not seeing a problem with my 2006 HCH.

OK, I just got done reading all 26 posts on this topic. First, thanks to everyone for input. This really is a great group!
Let me see if I got this right (Might also be a good summery for those. like myself that just took deleivery and are reading the thread for the first time)
Instantanious MPG display momentarily drops to 0 (zero) on occasion, when it should be displaying something (i.e your driving down the road so are logging miles). This is considered normal - possible recalibration? As a point of reference I took deleivery of my HCH Tuesday night and saw this occur this morning.
Average MPG display in Trip odometer - Resets every 63 miles. Is it always right at 63 mile intervals or does this vary? This is identified by a sudden change in the display where the average MPG is replaced by the current MPG at that moment - For example your average MPG for past 62 miles was say 38 MPG, but you happen to be going down a hill and getting say 100 MPG when you roll over to 63 miles, so the display goes from 38 to 100 and then begins displaying average MPG, as if the trip odomenter had been reset? Does the trip odometer milage also reset or just the average MPG?
Again, thanks to all who have contributed to this thread.

BTW, I have it, like a lot of other people here (took delivery on 2006-01-06; don't know the build date).

Both issues do not appear to be related.
A story has been promoted that is is "normal". Define "normal" I suppose. Maybe "nominal" is more like it. If it is recalibrating then the display should not change, that should be hidden from view and just maintain the last instantaneous mpg until the recalibration is complete.
Several thoughts on when trying to figure out the exact number. 100km = 62.14 miles. A guess would be that it resets around a "significant" number and it could be this one. I have found it to be somewhere between 62 and 63 mile multiples though that is just the number displayed. It is an assumption to believe that the number displayed is the number that is causing the malfunction. Could be a degree or multiple degrees of separation.
Another is that it resets rather close to the number 64 which could indicate some kind of relevance due to exceeding the allocated memory storage. Considering this is hardware programming, some 6 bit temp variable embedded in th averaging algorithm may be causing the problem when that amount is exceeded.
First option is more likely, but who really knows. It is a simple problem to diagnose if Honda wasn't so lazy. Borrow one of the cars, hook up their QA test harness, and voila.
