I have been reading the countless posts about the HAH both positive and negative. It makes me curious what purchasers were expecting in the first place when they bought the car. In my case, I'm out here in CA with $3.50 gas. I have an Infiniti, which is a wonderful car but has been costing me big in gas. I bought the Accord because it was close to the Infiniti (but definitely not equal) in comfort, performance, and style. The HAH has not let me down. My gas bills have dropped by about 1/3 since I got the car. I am guessing that it will save close to $1,000 a year on gas.

To tell you the truth, I would rather pay a bit more for a cleaner car that uses less gas than give the same money to the oil companies. I don't need a large net savings to justify a hybrid- it's a healthier, cleaner car, and that's enough for me.

My Infiniti didn't get awful mileage, it was rated at 20 city to 26 freeway, and consistently performed in that range or better. The HAH also does no better on stop and go city driving. But, I don't burn gas at stop signs and when the car hits eco mode it blasts past the Infiniti in mileage.

So, I guess I am the ideal buyer that Honda intended. I didn't come from owning a Civic, so I couldn't be offended when the HAH failed to produce shocking mileage gains. At $1,000 per year over the class of car I drove, I can easily justify the HAH.

Why did you buy?

 

I had a Nissan Xterra. It was too small to effectively pull my boat and got crappy gas mileage. I worked out a deal to borrow my father's van for the few times a year I actually tow the boat somewhere and traded the Xterra for the Accord Hybrid. with the HAH I get 30 mpg city vs 17 mpg in the Xterra. I enjoy driving the car more. It is more comfortable, quieter, smoother, handles better and has more acceleration.

 

We had a gas guzzlin Chevy Trailblazer LTZ. My wife is 5ft 2 and loves the idea of 'kickin azz' in her monster truck. The sucker had 84k miles on it and i was starting to get nervous that it was gonna start breaking down, as Chevy's tend to do at 80 or 90k.



So we traded it in, but with the miles and gas guzzlin habits, we only got 8500 trade in for it -taking a whopping 7k loss. . I took her to look at a Mercury Mariner and we thought about the FEH. She thought they were too tiny and pouted.

Still in love with her muscle machining ways, I then deduced that we go look at the 268 HP Toyota Highlander . Now, this sucker gets 29mpg EPA , top end limited 4x4. This made me happy.

So my wife now has a state of the art 'kick butt' machine still -but is friendlier to the environment and has good mileage and more than likely excellent resale value. The 2600 tax credit didnt hurt either.

becasue until last month it was the only game in town for a family sedan that could get well over 30mpg goin' to grandmas house.

The HAH replaces a Volvo S70 1998. We wanted a road car. Drove the Civic, it was noisy and the long front window struts blocked the view, I felt as though I was sitting in the back seat and driving. The Prius, drives like a Camry, soft and squishy. One should drive and not be distracted. The Prius has to many distractions. A Prius with all the bells and whistles cost almost as much as a HAH. We drove 3500 miles on our first road trip, through the mountains of the west and into Canada. We averaged 32.5 mpg, the high tank 36 the low 29. I highly recommend the HAH to anyone who wants a comfortable car that handles well, and can go when you need it to go.

 

I was looking at getting an '05 Acura TL. That's the kind of car I wanted. Sporty, yet family car. The HAH was just a better choice when it came down to money. I got the HAH for $4K less than the TL. And with my driving style and annual mileage, I just figured I'm saving over $600 a year in fuel costs.

I did test drive the HCH before buying the HAH. It wasn't what I wanted. The HAH has more interior room. Better quality interior. A lot more performance. Navi. Leather. And better exterior appearance.

 

The 2006 HAH replaced our 94 Toy 4X4 PU. I discovered the minivan was adequately covering the hauling role of the PU and the 4WD wasn't really needed. For the 4 days a year it snows, I'll stay home and play with the kids. The PU was really a plain ol' commuter that got 20-22 mpg.

The HAH is safer, drives better, gets better mileage and is much more comfortable. The most cost effective decision would have been the 4cyl Accord - but the HAH is way more fun. I've only managed to put 3500 miles on it so far and have enjoyed them. First time our family has gotten a new car that I've been able to wrestle from the wife in the car's first 5 years.

 

Because i not only wanted to think green, but to be green also. I have always been a fan of Ford and I wanted a hybrid. the FEH fit the bill, took one out on a test drive, loved it so much that i asked if i could take it on a 24 hr. road test, when i took it back i told them not to sell it cuz i was going to buy it and got it 2 days later. and the rest, shall we say, is history.

 

Total greed....

I had a pre-order on a 2006 Civic, and went into the dealer to see if it was on the water yet from Japan, and they offered me the last 2005 Accord on the lot, at a deep discount that ended up being only $2k more than the Civic would have been.

We already had the one Civic Hybrid so I was pretty well sold on the gas savings and PZEV emissions rating. But the Accord was a lot bigger, nicer, faster (while STILL beating all hekk out of the BMW 325 I was trading in, for both fuel economy AND horsepower.)

So it drives like the BMW did, I only have to fill it up every two weeks, and it's all hidden behind an ingenious "Mom Sled" disguise!

I just wish it had the big Harmon-Kardon speaker system (sigh)
