In a thread-surrection, I always assumed that the IMA battery was the one that spun the stator in the IMA to start the engine, correct? If so, the 12v 'house' battery condition shouldn't matter much in starting, which my 07 failed to do today.

12v provides power to the electronics. If voltage is low, all kinds of weird stuff happens. The 12V also acts as the power source for the backup starter if an ima fault prevents starting with the Ima battery.

Its health is important.
