Default Noise in reverse gear with cold engine

Does anyone else have noise when backing up with cold engine? I've seen some posts saying this is characteristic of Honda CVT transmissions.

Our 2012 HCH-III has always shuddered in reverse when cold, but doesn't make any particular noise. The new (to us) 2015 backs up smoothly but makes sometimes scary noises (sort of a combination of grinding/rattling), but only when cold. Once warmed up, backing up is noise-free.

The '15 has 30k miles, so I'm going to change the fluid and see if that makes a difference.

Haven't seen that. And we live in Boston where winters get quite cold. My 2015 has 80k miles, and we did the first CVT fluid change at 50k.
