See if you can reset the iPod's volume to medium. This issue should have its own topic.
For iPod storage, I use the bin that contains the AUX-in jack and 12V terminal. I got some male-male 3.5mm patch cord (the end that connects to the stereo has an "L"-shape bend, which makes it less obvious) and because there's way to much of it, it is bundled up and provides some "nesting" and camouflage for the white iPod. I just let the iPod (the one I use is the Shuffle stick) sit towards the back of the bin where it is nearly invisible. Reaching for and controlling it does not look conspicuous.
