Default Voice Recognition Lacking

Anyone have problems with their voice recognition feature? Our Lexus has it as well and it is flawless and recognizes what we want every time (even with the windows down). This feature on the HCHII however works about 20% of the time, even when speaking clearly, in the proper format, when in silence. There is nothing more aggravating than saying "68 degrees" and having it repeat back "XM Thirty-Nine". When this happens I curse loudly, which it does not recognize either...

Actually, these cars are female. They recognize the cursing and then go into the stubborn mode. J/K. Seems as though they take about 2 weeks of use to get to where they recognize the "dialect" for lack of a better word. Mine hasn't missed a command in a couple weeks now.

Default Your Voice Recognition just needs adjustment

There is an adjustment in the maintenance section of the nav radio to turn up the gain on the microphone. Chances are that you are not speaking loud enough, or there is too much ambient noise in the cabin.

Adjusting the microphone gain sensitivity will fix this. (or you can just speak louder)

The microphone might also be picking up harmonic noise from the chassis. The happens when the microphone comes dislodged from its isolation mount and touches a hard point on the bezel it is mounted on.

You can have your dealer set the gain on the microphone a bit louder and or check the microphone mounting.

Oh good grief. I'm so upset your car does not translate your voice commands perfectly. Perhaps it could give you a foot rub to make up for this gross inconvenience.

LOL @ terry. Great comment! That made my morning. You know, the NAVI speaks to you in this great female voice, telling you exactly how to get where you're going. So, it very well may be female.....

I've always wanted to design my own NAVI, but I'd probably get in trouble with how I'd have it respond to the drivers maneuvers......Think of a more smart@$$ way to say "at the next intersection, make a U-turn, if possible"...I hate to say it, but a U-Turn is almost always POSSIBLE at an intersection....legality of said maneuver is another story!

I haven't had many problems with mine...the hardest part for me is remembering the right commands. On occasion it will get confused with 'Air Conditioner Off' or 'Rear Defrost On' but I'm not even sure those are the right commands

Mine was accurate before I pumped up my tires to 42 psi. There's more road noise now, so the NAVI has a problem with that. In a trade-off between high MPG and using the NAVI voice commands, the MPG wins!!!

If you have too much background noise interfering with your voice command function, simply increase the microphone gain on the Nav system.

Orient Express,

I tried looking for the microphone gain option on the nav.... Can't seem to find it... Could it be because mine is an 06? Can you tell me the steps of prompts you went through to get to that feature?
