Third tank over 500mi

Re: Third tank over 500mi
I also noticed that when I calculated the actual mileage it was a little higher than the gauge was telling me, is that normal? It was off almost 2MPG (on the low side) Which just made me feel that much better about how I was doing but seems odd the gauge would read low.

Check the database. After your car is broken in, and you master all the tips - Then 600 and even 700 mi. tanks are possible. I've been filling sooner especially when I can ger the Reservation or PA gas (20-30 cents/gal cheaper). Keep working at it and you will get there.

Re: Third tank over 500mi
Thanks for the encouragement, I am not going to make 600 on this tank, will be gone next week and my wife will be driving the car (She gets 44 MPG or so when she drives) I have the guage at nearly 50 so I think it would have been doable. Going to cool off here in the next 6-8 weeks then I expect to loose 10MPG with the heat/defroster on all the time. Where its hot you guys can decide whether or not to use AC if its cold you will use heat. LOL Can't see out the windows with out it.

Re: Third tank over 500mi
Congratulations Big E! Keep up the great mileage!
I wanted to post my HCHII stats... I use a program called Ultimate Car Desktop to keep track of all my maintenance, fuel entries, etc (see attached pictures). I am at 5,300 miles and my tanks just keep getting better! I've had 3 600+ tanks (608, 618, 617 - should have been 4 but I had to fill-up early on one of them). The tank I'm working on I should get at least 650 (I'm at about 55mpg right now). I've had my 07 HCH since 4/15/07 (3 1/2 months). I have calculated what I would have spent in my other car (2000 Chevy Cavalier, 14 gal tank, avg 18-19mpg), and I have saved $414.00, not to mention 120 gallons and 8 trips to the gas station! At this rate, I will save over $1,200 a year if I average 15K miles/year. My wife drove it the first 3 tanks and only averaged about 400mi/tank and 38mpg, which kills my overall average... but I've got overall up to 46mpg so far. I should actually have one less fillup, as well as saved a little more $$ but my wife has it in her head that she needs to use the Plus 89 grade! Those of you out there who drive 20-30K/year will be saving much more! One person won't make a dent in fuel savings... but the 36,000 of us who own an HCH (not to mention the 150,000+ Prius) are taking a nice chunk of change away from big oil

Re: Third tank over 500mi
Good job.
To me, its not as important how far you went on a tank as how far you go on each gallon (MPG). Keep improving the mpg every day and the tanks will get better
Everyone here shooting for improved FE helps - if the other 98%+ of vehicle owners (non hybrids) just tried to improve FE 10% that would be a real demand change.
