swapped IMA battery- car is totally DEAD
This is my second junk yard battery.
The first one worked OK for a while but before the warranty ran out I got a IMA light and the MPG fell so they sent me a replacement.
I installed it just like the first one and when i flipped the switch and put the key in the car is totally dead-, no lights, no no clicks- dead-
At first i thought the 12 volt battery was dead but the horn worked. - that's it- the horn is the only indication there is any juice flowing at all.
Any guesses?
Even if my second IMA battery had serious problems, the car would have some signs of life, i think.
hope someone has a clue

Re: swapped IMA battery- car is totally DEAD
Did you check the 12V for voltage. If voltage is lower than 12v it probably will not start the car.Check voltage with a multi-meter or jump start the car with a good battery. If the IMA pack has sat for a year or so it may be week or dead! You will have to get the car started in order to charge it. H

No, not the 12v battery- the horn still worked. I've diagnaosed it to the main IMA fuse- fuse number 1.
It's a three legged fuse witha 100 amp side and a 70 amp side. ordered from Honda, I;ll have it htis afternoon- $10
The freaky thing is, with that fuse open there is no power to anything on the car.
I could not even roll the windows up.

Ok, I was wondering why the 12v starter would not start your car. Hope the fuse does the trick. Sounds like you have it figured. Wounder why that fuse blew!!! H

Re: swapped IMA battery- car is totally DEAD
The fixed the problem- the second junkyard battery seems to be pretty good.
Causes for the blown fuse are probably due to some sloppyness on my part- i did not disconnect the 12v battery beforeswapping out the IMA (I did shut the IMA off)
Also, i left one small plug disconnected when i first turned the IMA back on and attempted to start the car.
After I got the fuse i carefully did everything in the right order, double checked all the coneectiosn and everything went fine.

Re: swapped IMA battery- car is totally DEAD
I found the junkyard with this site:
http://www.uneedapart.com/
It was fairly easy to swap the battery. Remove the rear seat, uncover the switch, turn off the IMA, remove screws and bolts.
I actually replaced the battery first and then the other pile of stuff that comes with the battery pack.

Re: swapped IMA battery- car is totally DEAD
The second used pack is doing pretty well so far.
I don't think I've ever experinced re-cals.
My original pack started showing an IMA light and MPG in the mid 30's
I replaced it and the lights went out but the mileage did not improve much. Finally i got an IMA light within the junk yards 101 day warranty and got a second battery from them.
It seems to be doing much better. It's supposed to be form a 2007 with 27,000 miles.
