I notice a few Singaporeans have posted here, and all seem to be getting a lower efficiency than our other friends all over the world...

Perhaps, we are not doing it right way.. or perhaps it is because of the short distances and lower speed we are driving at....

Maybe we can share what we practise here and see if it is a norm due to our dirving condition.. or is it something we didn't do...

getting only 5.78 l/100 (17.3 km/l)
Tire Pressure: 250kPa (36Psi)

 

Your results sound very much like Australian results.


For my first few tanks I could do little better than 5.7L/100klm

1/ Increase your tyre pressure to 44psi - as per tyre wall specifications

2/ Over time the FE will get better and better.

I've done 15,000klm's and I'm averaging around 5.0L/100klm and getting better. This tank - 250k's so far, is showing 4.8L/100klm.

Hang in there and read the forum. There are some really great posts and some excellent advice. It has helped me heaps

 

The only advantge to the UK still not having finished converting to metric is that we can get an mpg boost just by using British units. My '02 Civic is currently giving me around 42mpg and I got 49mpg out of the HCHII I test drove for an hour

Converted to US gallons it becomes a less inspiring 35mpg.

 

I think it is because the water drains in the other direction in that part of the world, and it affects the fuel injection...

may be it is because drivers sits on the right side of the car?

My FE seem to have drop by 1km/l in this tank... without changing much of my driving style... It is however a little too early to tell as i have 3/4 tank more to go.

 

oh no... u mean there isn't enough gravity pull to drain the water and its choking up the fuel injector?

Found my problem.. during the service at 1000km.. they reverted the air pressure in my tires to 220kPa. So I have been driving with a 220kPa tires for the last 1000km. The increase in fuel econmy I saw was perhaps from the engine getting more efficient and the the driver getting "run in"

I got it up to 270kPa this morning. (abt 38Psi). The tire wall pressure shows 51Psi... I don't think I want to get it to anywhere above 40Psi yet, as the weather is hot here, I do not want to risk the tires exploding...

 

Don't worry. I use 44psi in Aus and no explosions yet!


But it will make a difference to your FE

 

I think low FC has alot to do with the short distances here, as far as my experience goes the HCH2 doesn't like short distance, traffic jams and inclines. Yes it regenerate energy but nothing beat a long smooth road that goes on and on. CAn easily break 20km/l if trips here are much longer and roads less conjested here.
