For those of us who like and chose that option, the AS may not be as important for a split second of a rev from the engine when you coast into the garage on AS. Though it may be a stress (though extremely small) on the CVT engine we've got, I do not feel that it's a big deal in the overall MPG, which is what most of us are aiming for...
Me too. I refer to the shift lever as "the door unlock lever"

Everytime the engine restarts its a waste of gas...Being a hypermiler, I'd rather have to manually unlock doors than waste gas. Of course, I will have my shirt stick to my back with sweat rather turn on the A/C.

Try this.

As you reach your finger into the door handle, push your knuckle on the door lock. I used to think honda got the door lock design backwards, but this method makes for a very smooth door-unlocking-&-opening motion.

Sweet! One smooth motion sounds good to me. I'll have to try that next time I'm in my car (and from now on).

Thanks guys. I was wondering this too. I was turning it off then switching it into park about 10% of the time (just when i remembered). Now i know what to do.

I just turn the car off in D and move to P. I never get a CVT pop unless I parked on a hill and forget to set the e-brake.

The AS works in my 2006 HCH when in N. (I have seen some posts on it NOT working in N, but mine does.....not sure what the book says.)

I will write this disclaimer:

You must follow all state laws in your area in concerns to vehicle safety. You must engage park once you deem you are to leave the vehicle. Remember the Hybrid is spinning the motor start at 1000rpms. A typical gas only engine does this at 100rpms.

The reason I want to highlight this is because someone out there will try to do what is written on this forum and get someone hurt, injured, or killed.

Cars and Hybrids are serious machines that can cause great harm if used incorrectly. Please remember Hybrids are regular cars with a different method to bring or assist propulsion. Trying to save gas by bypassing a normal park feature is dangerous and unsafe.

Thank you,
