Selling my '06 HCH II for safety reasons

Re: Selling my '06 HCH II for safety reasons
Said this earlier, but if a lot of people were honest, that need for speed is actually to be competitive - not safe. During my aggressive driving days, I finally realized I'd go slower down one road when it was empty than during rush hour.

Re: Selling my '06 HCH II for safety reasons
I drove through Houston. Once in March and once in April. During afternoon rush hour. Both times. I drive a 255 hp car. I didn't have to drive aggressively. Nor, did I ever need to punch it to accelerate onto an onramp. I'm sure the HCH would have been more than adequate for me personally to survive in that traffic. I did, however, need to slam on the brakes, then accelerate past a Durango that decided at the last second that he wanted to get into the lane that was splitting off into the HOV lane, and nearly ran me into the concrete barriers!
I did, however, notice in the original post, that the original poster said he got out-accelerated by the Hummer. So, I believe the original poster created his own grief at that point. Seeing the Hummer wanting to overtake him to make it to the off-ramp, the original poster would have avoided the stress that occured if he just let up on the accelerator and let the Hummer pass. Yeah, it's hard on the ego. But in the long run, you'll be more sane.

I say this calmly and seriously: a Hummer does not have great acceleration.
It's not going to overtake an HCH II.
I'm sure someone can Google the figures to validate this.

Re: Selling my '06 HCH II for safety reasons
The 0-60 for the HCHII is about 11.2 seconds
The quarter mile for the H2 is about 17.2 seconds
The quarter mile for the HCHII is about 18.3 seconds
Not much difference, how much in gas savings though? 4-5 times.

Reminds me of a couple of other stickers I have seen:
INSURED BY SMITH & WESSON
and
I DRIVE WITHOUT MY GUN 1 DAY A WEEK.
GUESS WHICH DAY.
Most of my commute is on 2-lane rural roads. While I stay at or near the speed limit, all too often there's a cretin who insists on going 40 in a 55 zone. I have no trouble quickly accelerating to 60-65 to pass it.
Any vehicle is only as safe as its driver.

Re: Selling my '06 HCH II for safety reasons
Seriously, today, I had to go in town instead of my usual out of town way. So my first experience in heavy traffic, stop and go, line merging, and all the related stress.
52mpg to go and 55mpg to comeback. I was expecting a 45 to 47mpg for that first experience so i'am very happy. I was especially proud to glide a zero emission during many long periods in that very polluting community.
The car is great, safe, has all the required power and is a real contribution to the decrease of emission is such type of driving.

Good for you, Pierre!
Nark makes an excellent point. The differences that people make so much of are really very small in real terms. You might be able to 'feel' a difference, or you might be paying really close attention to the effects around the margins, ... or maybe it's in your head. Maybe the people who advertise Hummers have just succeeded really well in getting into the mindset of people who drive them or want to, so that its boxy shape and heavy frame gives a perception of power and strength that may not be real.
Gee- advertisers messing with our perceptions...? Nah, couldn't happen.

Re: Selling my '06 HCH II for safety reasons
I bet the "Original-Poster" never in a Million Years thought that this Thread would end up like this over {His-Decision} to change-vehicles for whatever reason he had.
Interesting !!!!!

Out accelerated? Were you racing him for the ramp or something?
