Default Replaced IMA Battery

Took my 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid (250,000 miles) to my Honda dealer.
Battery light came on. Car started spitting and sputtering. My IMA battery has been out for a while. The IMA battery finally went completely out and burned out the bypass contactor as well. Car was running strictly on the front battery which was not getting charged now that the IMA battery was completely out it was literally running out of juice. I did not know this car did not have an alternator. It relies on the IMA battery to charge the front battery.
Had it towed to the Honda dealer. They replaced the front battery and informed me I needed to replace the IMA battery ($3000) the bypass contactor ($1000) for a total of $4000. There might be more needed once these were replaced.
At $4000+ to repair a 9 year old hybrid I was thinking it might be time to buy another vehicle. I came across a company called Green Tec Auto. Their number is 800-773-6614. They offer 3 different types of batteries for the 2006 Civic. They have an 8 amp for $2251. One with new generation 6.5 amp cells for $1994 and a rebuilt version for $1595. Installation is $150 extra. They have several install facilities throughout the US.
I chose the new generation 6.5 amp with installation and 3 year unlimited mileage warranty.
My total bill was $2144 plus tax. Half of what Honda wanted. And by the way the bypass contactor is automatically replaced at no extra charge.
These guys are the real deal and have a perfect Better Business Bureau rating.
If any of you are interested, give them a call. You won't be disappointed.

Good luck. That's about the same price as Hybrid ReVolt's and Bumblebee's 8.0Ah packs - two vendors who are very active in the IMA community over at Insight Central and have years of experience with satisfied Insight, HCH1 and HCH2 customers (HAH too).

Bottom line is that they all use NiMH cells sourced from China. What is known is that HR and BB do extensive testing on incoming sticks to ensure quality, and you can have a chat with the owners.

Looks like Hybrid ReVolt had better pricing than Green Tec.
I wasn't aware of them though.
I considered Bumblebee. GreenTec made it easier for the installation. Only a few miles from my home. That was my deciding factor since their pricing was very close.

Bumblebee has a network of installers as well. He just doesn't have them readily accessible on the site. It's more of a, "if you need it installed, ask us for a recommendation in your area."
