I feel like I am getting taken for a ride (and not a fun one) every time I go to the dealer to get regular maintenance done on my HCHII. The A1 service cost me $55 for an oil change and I guess a tire rotation. Now, one of the dealers is charging $160 for a B1 service.....which is what? an oil change, tire rotation, inspection of brakes, maybe air filter replacement.....wtf. What are some of the prices that you guys are getting charged?

 

I don't know how much my dealership would charge, since A1 and B1 I do myself in the driveway. $20 for the oil, $10 for the filter. Best to buy a couple of extra clips, the first time you change it yourself you're likely to break at least one.

 

My dealer wanted $67 for an oil change. I bought Mobil 1 in 0w20 and a filter and did it myself. I used my floor jack/hydraulic jack to jack up one side of car and rotated tires from rear to front. Not interested in side to side. Done!
I am keeping records and receipts of supplies, just in case I need to argue with dealer over repairs sometimes in the future.

 

Nark, their charges sound a little steep, but don't sound too far off. I just had my transmission fluid changed, tires rotated, oil and oil filter changed for 125.00, but I bring my own oil in. I wouldn't hesitate to call around to different dealers, though. I actually drive out of my way to a dealer because their prices are reasonable and their service is excellent.

Air filter replacement is not in the B1 service. Just FYI though, you can order both air filter and cabin filter from NAPA for about 12.00 each. They are extremely easy to install and from what I've read here, just replacing those yourself could save you at least 50.00 or more.

 

Nobody touches my car but me. No blasting the drain plug on with an impact wrench here.

Most of the routine stuff is so easy. I still need to post pics of the filter replacement (have not forgotten, just the camera was unavailable).

 

woops, meant oil filter Jess. But even that is $5-10 at a store right? Not the $30 they charge at the stealership. I am going to see if I can bring in my own stuff and pay less.

 

on a side note, would it be better to use conventional dyno 0w-20 or synthetic 5w-20? What about just using 5w-20 in the HCHII (Manual says it can be used if 0w-20 is not available).

 

There have been those that actually find a slight decrease in mpg with the 5w-20. I believe you can use it from time to time, but it is not recommended as a long term replacement.

I'm pretty sure my dealer only charges 6.00 - 7.00 for oil filter.

I think just about everyone here uses Mobil1 0w-20 if it's available in their location, and 5w-20 otherwise. I don't think there is a dino 0w-20 available at all.
