Rear Suspension
I have a 2007 Civic Hybrid, and I've noticed that the when there is some weight in the car, the rear wheels aren't parallel to each other any more. The rear wheels angle out a little. Is this normal for the Civic suspension? I've noticed this also on some older, small BMW's -

Even without a load, you should see a slight lean-in of the rear wheels on the HCH-II. It is negative camber and it's designed that way. You mentioned the BMW, and I have noticed it mostly on Mercedes-Benz vehicles, including the child brand smart. It is one of several ways to provide rear stability and traction.
Or you could have this issue:

Before having the work completed, I noticed a slant to my rear wheels, afterwards, not so much....for sure is worth the effort of checking out.

Sounds like you have/had a legit problem.
I had a BMW 5-Series that always looked like the rear wheels were not quite right, but whenever I'd verify it, they were perfectly vertical. The tire wear was uniform too, so it was just an optical illusion.
