Default Odd that the HCH II does not remember its IMA state

Am I the only one who finds it extremely odd that the HCH II does not remember its IMA (charging) state? This is especially odd given the car remembers all kinds of other states -- the Automatic climate control setting, the battery charge state itself, to cite two examples.

Let me give you two examples:

1) When I get to three bars (occasionally), it starts re-gen'ing but if I stop the engine then it resumes at that charge with assist but no further regen -- this makes no sense given the car likes to charge back to 6-7 bars if I let the regen continue.

2) I get occasional ReCals especially if I do a ton of city driving with no highway driving mixed in and/or the weather is too hot like it has been the past two summers. However, I tend to do a lot of short drives (2-4 miles), and this leads the recal to not complete. Sometimes the recal has worked its way up to 5 bars when I have to shut off the car (after reaching my destination).

This would be no biggie except every ReCal I have had tends to have this strange behavior in which:
  • The car starts forced-regening when the charge indicator is 4/5+ bars
  • The charge indicator would then start dropping to 4, 3, 2 and sometimes 1 bar
  • Regen would proceed to charge the battery - it would take a long time to go from 2 to 3, and 3 to 4 bars. 4 to 5 bars would be quicker, and then it would be 6, 7, 8 within a few seconds.
... so given this behavior, I have to suspect that the 4 or 5-bars I have when I have to turn off the engine is really close to 8 bars. This causes the car to drive in a confused state in which it gives me only as much assist as one would get with 4/5 bars but the car (likely) really has almost full charge. I particularly won't complain about this since I try not to get a lot of assist but still my first question remains.

Why won't the HCH II design have the ability to save the state (ReCal or ReGen) so that it resumes the state at the next start? Of course, they would have to remove the state after N hours/days in case the car remains parked for a long period. This would require a Recal, which makes sense to me.

Perhaps I am just too obsessive compulsive minded to be thinking about these issues

PS: 2008 HCH II - IMA update from last year has NOT been applied, too worried I will end up in the half of the people who have had a negative consequence. Lifetime MPG (city/hw/summer/Indiana winter): ~50.
