"Non Mandatory Recall" Letter
Just received this “Non Mandatory Recall” letter from my Vehicle’s Manufacturer and wanted to share it with you: It reads:
August 2010
Product Update: Hardware removal is needed for your vehicle’s fuel delivery system
Dear Owner:
This letter is to notify you of a potential problem with your vehicle and what you should do to correct it.
The Problem?
Your vehicle’s electric fuel pump may deteriorate and fail before its normal warranty period is reached. Frequent use of your vehicle speeds up the deterioration. To eliminate the possibility of the fuel pump failing while under warranty we have decided to retro fit all vehicles with a GRAVIY FEED system. This action will be less expensive for your manufacturer in the long run rather than replacing pumps as they fail.
What you have to do:
Contact your dealer and make an appointment for the change over. This change over will be FREE OF CHARGE to you.
After the old fuel pump is removed we will not be replacing it, it will be a gravity feed system. You may notice some changes to the operation of your vehicle but not all owners will. Flatlanders will not notice a difference. What might others experience:
** If you park you vehicle on a slight uphill, then you will have to roll backwards to get to level ground for the fuel to reach your engine before starting your car
**If you live in a hot area you might experience the gasoline has evaporated in the line so to start your vehicle get it to level ground or to a slightly down slope and then blow into the gas filler pipe to force the gas to the engine. The engine can now be started.
**If you see a slight hill ahead of you then speed up and get your momentum up to get over the hill before the gas to the engine stops
**If you live in hilly or mountainous area you will be required to climb all hills in reverse. It is the only way the gas will be able to get to the engine. Once at the top, turn car around and drive normally to the next hill.
If you experience any or all of these conditions, DO NOT BE CONCERNED, your vehicle is operating at its designed specifications.
This product update NEVER expires. If you take your vehicle in for fuel pump problems we will automatically remove your pump and make it a gravity feed system.
Sorry that this may inconvenience some of you but your manufacturer would rather inconvenience you than to cut into our profits.
Sincerely
(Obviously this is NOT true )

Re: "Non Mandatory Recall" Letter
You speak very fluent Honda. Typical of any modern corporation, their language (and mind-set) seems to have evolved in a vacuum: going off on a (self-serving) tangent, unchecked by feedback from their customers. Try this: look for posted email contacts for getting in touch with Honda. There are none.

Re: "Non Mandatory Recall" Letter
Hey I got a similar letter. Except in mine they talked about disabling one spark plug. This way the engine would have less heat build up and make the engine last longer. This of course would decrease horsepower.
I guess this a new trend in auto manufacturing. They sell the car as having certain features and specifications that people base their car buying on. Then once they have sold 1000's, they change these features so that their design flaws disappear. Bait and switch.
