New Owner, Thrilled with HCHII
I bought an 07 HCH this weekend and am totally excited about this car.
I have been monitoring this forum for some time and it sounded like only the fanatic hypermilers were getting the good mileage. I read many complaints of only 38-44 mpg.
I drove my "new" car back from Atlanta about 140 miles to get home, and pulled into my driveway with 52 mpg.
I let my wife drive it on a 12 mile test loop and she got 49. I drove 75 miles yesterday and got 52.7. Granted, we are conservative drivers and stay below the speed limit, but this is better than I expected.
I'm anxious to learn some HM techniques and optimize the Civic's performance. I'm an engineer and a gadget geek, so this makes driving interesting again. A great car. I'm looking forward to following this forum.

Good luck with you new purchase. I've gotten the best mileage by keeping my speed down. I don't do this often enough so my mileage usually runs 45 or 46 MPG. I'm very happy with this and it doesn't require me to make any great adjustments to my normal (driving too fast) style. Good luck.

Your first stop should be tarabell's posting on the CleanMPG forums

Hi John;
Yes the HCH 2 is a very interestig auto. And it does put fun back into driving. Press your tires to about 35-40lbs. Good luck!
Cheers Hal

Welcome GL.
Congrats on your purchase and your good mileage. I'd say it largely has to do with your current locale. You don't say your location, but if you got the car in Atlanta, I am assuming the south and some pretty decent, mild winter temps.
I am babying my car in single digit temps right now and am getting 35mpg. When it's in the 90's I get about 40. I avg about 43. I'm from New Orleans, so I am familiar with long, muggy, hot southern summers. That might be when you see a mpg decline.
Cheers and good luck.

PS Pump your tire pressure up to at least 40psi.
