Maxed out trip meter
I reset the "B" trip meter to zero on 1/1 in order to track the approximate year-to-date MPG. Well, the other day I crossed the 10,000-mile threshold and the meter cycled back to zero.
(Just the miles; the MPG estimate didn't change.) Something to keep in mind if you ignore either trip meter.
As for the "A" meter, I reset that at every fillup.

Yes, that was mentioned before in one of the threads here. Good to have further confirmation of it. I accidentally reset mine at a fill-up
. But now I reset trip A on each commute, and trip A & B on each fillup. Seems to work out well for me. My lifetime MPG is here on Greenhybrid, although I'd rather it STILL was on my car too!

Why should the mpg reset? That make no sense. The mpg is just the average of a samples it has been taken. The reset just resets the miles and clears out the samples used in calculating the average.
Thats one thing I dislike about HCH. Along with the odometer they should've had a Lifetime MPG display. Then you would have 2 unique tripmeters each with its own MPG display - use one for tank and the other for individual trips.
Here in Canada ... I wonder if it'll reset at 10000 kms? Although i think only the display should reset ... not the counter itself. and hence the mpg for the trip meter should stay accurate.

It doesn't reset, exactly. Because it keeps track of the mpg even after flipping over, it's a bit like having an extra decimal place out in front that is broken or invisible or something. Though of course it doesn't display any leading zeros, so it does LOOK like it's been reset. However, it certainly does not clear out the samples used for calculating the average, because the FE displayed is still very clearly affected by my early driving and does not reflect my average FE since the flipover.
I find it irritating, too, but it still serves my pupose just fine (which is to have a record of mpg from the time I bought the car).

Confused! infinite sample size?? why?? Lifetime MPG is a factor of total fuel used and total kms travelled. Both pieces of info the car computer already has. Am I missing something??
