The IRS credit applies only to the purchase of a new car so you would not be eligible regardless of the purchase date.

IRS: Hybrid Cars and Alternative Fuel Vehicles
The credit is only available to the original purchaser of a new, qualifying vehicle. If a qualifying vehicle is leased to a consumer, the leasing company may claim the credit.

Agreed. USED = NO REBATE. PERIOD.
