My dealer had one included with my '07 HCH. It seems to be a useful thing to have it also looks nice as well.

 

Looks like something that might come in handy for carrying the kids dirty/wet football equipment and the very occasional "keeper" striped bass. Any thoughts on mounting a rod rack that won't reduce FE?

Is the price on E-Bay similar to that folks have paid from the dealer?

Anything up there has to push more air out of the way.

But I'm sure there are designs with lower drag than others. (which is probably what you meant.)

 

Sounds great, but 2 questions:
1. Most important: How much does it weigh and how much will it decrease my mpg?
2. How much does it cost?

 

The weight suprised me... I thought it would weigh quite a bit since it was big and looked like i was made of thick rubber. But it is very light... I have the rubber floor mats as well for the civic and the weight of the floor mats combined weighs a ton compared to the trunk tray alone. *I'm being sarcastic. The trunk tray isn't as think as the rubber mats and is very bendable.

They said retail is $99, but i'm sure you can get a discount off of that if you ask nicely.

 

LOL, i feel the same way. I'm a neat freak... I have the wet okole seat covers to protect the tan seats... But it's like, "Man, is there a protector for the seat covers a well?" I need a protector to protect the protector. But yeah, i know the feeling.

 

That tray looks nice, but in case of a flat do you have to remove it in order to reach the spare? And as "SrfCity" noted, it looks like anything you put in the trunk will slide around.

IMHO, if you plan to put something dirty in the trunk it would be easier & cheaper to cover the bottom with a large sheet (or plastic wrap, if it's both dirty & wet), then remove the covering when you're done. Just wash the sheet and/or discard the plastic.

 

Yes, you do have to remove the tray in order to get to the spare tire. But like said earlier in my previous comments, the weight is very light. Yes an inconvenience if you have stuff + the trunk tray to remove to get your spare out, but i'm okay w/that. And NO, nothing w/slide around because the material is some sort of rubbery plastic. Very similar to the rubber floor mats but not as thick and heavy.

 

I have always had liners like this in all of my cars trunks.

They pay for themselves the first time something spills or leaks back there. Just pull out the liner and hose it off. This one is very nice because it is so deep. It cost me $70.

I recommend it as a worthwhile accessory for your Civic.
