on the website, honda shows the headrest that i prefer - with open center:

i just dropped by a dealership and the only blue interior HCH they had, had solid headrest. guy on the lot said this was bc 09 has active head restraint.

can anyone with 09 fabric interior tell me whether their headrest is open or solid design?

 

As far as I know, no Civic Hybrid has the open headrests - that image is only there to show the fabric colors and is probably from a different vehicle.

 

Mine is solid with the blue cloth interior...they are indeed active head restraints.

 

Maybe one of the other Civic models (the LX or the EX) has the type of head rests you prefer in a similar color. Perhaps you could switch out the headrests for those.

 

Looks like the S.I. has them, not really great looking in my opinion.

 

I believe the EURO Civic Hybrid has open headrests. You might order them from overseas, if the headrests are a big concern.

 

JDM HCH comes with the open headrest, similar with 2.0 model here
but about one year ago they remove the rectanglar hollow plastic piece within the hole, cost saving i believe but look ugly without it
