I have never owned a hybrid so this is a new world to me. The car has 52,000 miles on it and had the IMA battery replaced at 36,000 in 2013 by Honda under Warranty. The car has been serviced at Honda and appears well taken care of. I generally do all of my own maintenance though so that will end.

My question is what should I do to maintain the car beyond what is stated at the prescribed service intervals? I have read some about grid charging but I am going to need to wrap my head around the instructions a bit. I am pretty handy and not afraid to do electronic projects so its something I can do once I "get it".

The battery, if this matters, normally sits around 4 bars and I have seen it down to 2 once and up to 6 several times.

Any advice you can provide would be appreciated.

 

Last year Honda extended the warranty for 09-11 Civic hybrid batteries to 10yr/150k miles in ALL states, not just CARB. Grid charging would likely void the warranty.

Continue to do the maintenance as prescribed, EXCEPT, replace your CVT fluid every other oil change, 3qts Honda CVT fluid only.

 

Good information, thanks. I was debating grid charging to try to make sure the battery lasts as long as possible. However, I would never want to risk the warranty.

If you start noticing erratic gauge behavior and a drop in mileage, document it aggressively and hound the dealer.

I just got an 07' and I love it. I heard investing in a reconditioning pack extends the life, but im not sure if that voids the warranty. Im out of warranty, so Im investing in it.
