Autostop/Auto Climate Question

This car is quite new to me and I'm still learning about the Autostop. I know that having the Defrost on, or Mode selected to Defrost/Foot will defeat the Autostop. I really like the Auto setting, choosing a temp and have it do its thing, but when I hit Auto it's default selection is Defrost/Foot. Then, of course the Autostop is disengaged. Is this normal? It seems like this is a nice setting for constant airflow without air blowing in your face from the dash but when I get off the freeway and start hitting lights I'm thinking "oh no my Autostop isn't working" and sure enough I have to hit the Mode button to switch it from the Defrost/Foot setting. I can't imagine that having it on Auto just defeats Autostop all the time.

That is not normal. It may do that if your set temp is higher than ambient as it does auto-switch between heating and cooling.
