Agreed.

For better accelleration, I'd put it in 'S' and floor it (literally).

However, what's the real issue here?

Planning ahead, looking far ahead (and behind), and accellerating earlier may all be a better alternative.

I agree, it's more a driver issue than a car issue. Know what you have to work with and go from there.
