Cold here in Chicagoland. Woke up, minus 3F. Engine started w/o user aux starter which was a bit of a surprise. Also not surprising, my milage dropped about 3 mpg during a trip on the highway. But all-in-all, much better experience than I expected. Heater came on in about 5 minutes.

 

Since I installed a block heater a couple weeks ago I've had exceptional mileage in cold weather, even when plugged in outside at work in 0 deg. temps.

 

Tell me about it. My last two tanks combined are currently at 37.4mpg (I didn't reset after the last refill thinking I would raise the average--didn't work!)

I don't drive the engine cold though I wait for 2 temp bars. Maybe I need to overinflate my tires if this weather keeps up.

 

That's where your losing gas. Go ahead and drive it cold. It will save you more gas than warming your car up (unless your using a BH)

 

I agree with giantquesadilla. Go ahead and drive it cold. I drive mine gently for the first few minutes, while it's warming up a little.
This is actually BETTER for your car, BETTER for your MPG - and your car warms up FASTER than just idling it.
