Default filter change interval

I started changing the filter at every second oil change on my Audi a few years ago after I noticed that they were 15 K mile filters. Those filters are a little expensive, so I started doing there mainly because I'm a tightwad.

But on the Civic, for the 1st 3 oil changes, I had also changed the filter. But I have seen the light, and this latest filter will not go into the recycle bag until 50K miles.

However, I do recommend changing the filter at the drain of the (first) factory fill, given all of the manufacturing debris that are floating around in that oil.

BTW: I do not have the TBN because that test costs $10 more. If you want to contribute, we can have it done next time around!

It wouldn't surprise me if the dealer weren't changing filter on each change. I'm new to the hybrid car, but with the cvt I would think it more similar to a marine engine. You can actually void warranties by changing oil and filter too often, and many have adopted an every other change on the filter.

Change the filter, it's just good practice. It's too easy not to.

I changed my oil for the first time at 2.6Kmi last weekend. Believe me, it was hard to wait even that long. I will be changing mine most likely eveyr 5k or less after that just for principle. (I'm old) I recycle it, so that part does not bother me.

Oh, I am using 5w-20, also. Go ahead, I'm ready....

I'll stick to using Mobil1 0w20 and 10K oil change. Let's check back in at 300K miles and see who's engine is cleaner.

Wow, that is an epic waste of oil. Rerefining oil still takes a lot of energy, and even though a lot of recycled motor oil is burned as fuel for electricity or heating, it's still best to use that oil in your engine for as long as you can.

I know not everyone buys a hybrid for environmental reasons, but you'd think a hybrid buyer would have some concern for those issues.

Just curious as to which oil filter you are using?

I was looking at the Fram Model PH7317 but realized that it has some kind of additive in the filter and I don't think I want their additive going into my Mobil 1 0W-20 AFE Oil.
