Smile 2009 HCH II - New Owner

I leased a 2009 HCH II on 5-6-09. I turned in a leased 2006 Honda Civic Sedan EX. One of the reasons I chose the HCH II was for my wife's not having to adapt to an Insight or Prius, since there is no getting used to a different car. She doesn't pay any attention to the Hybrid stuff, nor do I want her to, at this time. To the casual driver, the two cars are virtually the same. She seems to be very pleased with the new HCH II.

I didn't discover the Hybrid sites until about 3 weeks ago. So far here are results by the tank:
..........Actual Computer
Miles MPG MPG

356 45.1 42.9

490 45.7 43.5

400 46.5 44.2

I drive at posted speed limits: 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, and use CC whenever possible. So far the computer MPG is approx. 2.2 less than my gallons divided into miles traveled on the tank. The lowest I've been on gas is 3 bars on the fuel gauge for the 490 mile tank.

Just as a quick comment on the last bit, mine is definitely always less on the computer than hand computed, but for me its not always the same amount. I can find no direct proportion so keep watching that and update the forum about it!

A few more comments:

1. Cruise Control may seem a good idea, but you can do better. Cruise Control is "dumb" attempting to maintain a constant speed, which is rarely the best tactic.

2. "She doesn't pay any attention to the Hybrid stuff, nor do I want her to, at this time."

Just my 2 cents, if both of you are interested and involved in bettering your mileage, it's more interesting, satisfying, etc.

3. Set the gauges so that you see the "real time" fuel consumption. It's on page 66 of the manual. Also, set the trip meter display so that it's showing accumulated mileage (think you're already doing this)

About the variance between the car's computer-calculated MPG and actual MPG per tank.. I am usually 4.5 MPG better that the car's computer!

I am also impressed with 490 miles on the tank with 3 remaining bars.
I recently went "only" 455 miles before the low fuel indicator light came on.
