Default 2008 Extended Warraty

New to the group first post!

I would like to query the group on extended warranty costs.

To start off, I heard that the costs of these plans in somehow regulated and dependent on the state you are in. If it matters I'm in Florida.

I opted to reject the dealers offer which was over $2K for 6yr/100k!

I found what I think is a better deal n the net at WarrantyDirect. I opted for their 5yr/125,000 (I commute 100 mi/day) w/$100 deductible for $1300. This warranty claims to coverage everything except the air bags that is not covered by the Honda factory warranties.

I saw a thread from back a few years that had cost for similar coverages for about half what I was quoted. Did I get a bad deal? If so, can anyone point me in the direction of a better deal?

If there is an FAQ or sticky on this please point me there.

Thanks
Dean

This is where I bought mine a few years ago.

I tried to price one for you, but I got this message:

We are sorry but due to Florida State law, Florida residents are not eligible for online service contracts. Please contact your local dealer.
The 6yr/100k is $725 miles when using CO as the state or residence. (That is for the $0 deductible.)

I judged the price of the warranty against whatever it may cost to fix something should it break.

This is a Honda, not a Bentley, and I chose to keep my money and take my chances.

Well, I wouldn't pay retail for an extended warranty, but those prices are so cheap.

I think you are hosed in FL. Your lawmakers want to protect you from fraud (and fly-by-night companies), so they don't allow you to make an independent decision on extended warranties. I think dealers are the only place for HondaCare extended warranty for FL residents. And of course, the FL dealers know this and hike up the prices accordingly.
It's a shame. Blame the bad companies, and gullible residents, but mostly blame the lawmakers for protecting you from yourself.

Thanks everybody!

Gotta love the government for "helping" us out!

I looked closer at the WarrantyDirect policy and it is underwritten by a firm doing business in Florida. Looking at the bright side I got a much better deal than the dealer was offering!

All the best,
Dean
