2007 HCH Maintenance Questions
Hello-
Had my '07 Civic Hybrid in for an oil change on Tuesday and was told I need front brakes, CVT service, and coolant service. The car has 60K on it, so I was expecting to do this maintenance in the next month or so.
I use Mobil-1 0W-20 synthetic with a K&N oil filter for my oil changes. Was wondering if any other forum members have used a synthetic or non-OEM ATF fluid when servicing the CVT. Does the CVT require anything special in terms of fluid? I've used Royal Purple and Red Line products before, and am happy with M1 oils.
Also, the 12V battery is original so I'd like to replace it before snow flies in Chicago. Any opinions or recommendations on a non-OEM replacement? I've got Wal-Mart batteries in 2 of my cars and they seem to work fine...
BTW, love my car-I've had it just over 4 years and it's as tight as drum and it has averaged 41 mpg over it's life with me (I've tracked each fill-up since day 1).
I run steel wheels with Michelin snow tires from Nov-Mar, and the car is great in the snow with this combination (have a 70 mile commute to work from the country to the suburbs).

I would be careful about the oil you dump into the CVT. I don't think it is worth the risk. Some folks have used Royal Purple , Red Line but never keep you up to date! I would stay with Honda CVT oil only. Only my opinion!
Lots of us use different engine oils! I use Toyota 0-20 synthetic because it is a excellent price.
As far as the battery goes, Wal-mart sell a good battery.
