I read on this board that there was a firmware update available that has something to do with the IMA system. I had an update to the computer done back on '05 related to wiping out the catalytic converter.

I called the dealer and Honda America, gave them my VIN, and they told me I already had the update done in '05. I said no, there is a newer update for a different problem, and mentioned service bulletin 06-36. They did not know what I was talking about.

What do I need to lead a dumb dealer in the right direction to get this update? Or does it simply not apply to 5 speed cars?

 

I have a 04 manual hybrid. I have had two software updates(recalls)

 

My 2005 M/T was in for a service in early November (2007) and was given an "IMA Software Update", OPC Code:07-036A.

It was the first time I'd had it to the dealer since I bought it in July 2006, so I have no idea if it was the first, second or only IMA update. Perhaps you can compare the OPC code from the one you had done in 2005 and see if it's the same number or not.

 

Thank you for the specific information. I will contact the dealer with this info. I have not had the car in since mid '05 when the catalytic converter update was done. I do not think it is possible that I have the update you mention.

What is an OPC code? That can't be read out of the car's computer like a firmware version number, can it?

 

I spoke with American Honda. Supposedly that update does not apply to my '03. I think that implies there are some changes to the computer or firmware that cause the 'bug' to be present in vehicles newer than mine.

 

I'm not sure, but I think it's like a part number for service items. Maybe ?Operation Code?, something the computer uses to find the service item, price, etc.. Unless your dealer is totally clueless, or without a computer in the service department, it should mean something quite specific to them. One can only hope.....

 

American Honda knew what it meant, but they said it did not apply to my VIN. Dealer claimed they couldn't look it up, but could only look up what was called for by my VIN. They probably could have looked it up if they knew what they were doing, but I just got a clueless 'service writer' on the phone.

 

I had the same issue today guys.

Battery replaced under warrenty (@89k, wtf!) and I was told that 07-036A did not apply to my 04 HCH manual.

Anyone have a link to the honda site, that I could show them?
