Nationwide parts shortage?

Nationwide parts shortage?
Last week my A/C died on the way home. I took it to my dealer and at first they claimed they'd have it fixed by Friday. Come Friday I get a call from them saying they need a clutch for the compressor and they're backordered until 9/11. (Of course until then I have to drive a hot car on the way home.) 
Does anyone know if there is indeed a shortage of A/C compressor clutches and why that is?
